Owner and Guide: John Over

I grew up fishing and exploring the McKenzie River that is in my backyard of Eugene, OR. My passion for fly fishing and boating turned into a small business, which I now own and operate myself. Guiding clients down the historic McKenzie River while catching fish along the way is some of my most cherished time spent. When not on the river, I work as a clinical researcher at Slocum Orthopedics here in Eugene. I am pursuing medical school with the hopes of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. My other hobbies include, kayaking, camping, hiking, working out, and anything else that keeps me moving.

When clients are in my boat, I work to apply my years of knowledge and experience to provide a successful and valued day on the water together. Whether a beginner or advanced fly fisherman, you will use a variety of techniques to target the trout that inhabit the McKenzie River.

I am a proud member of the McKenzie River Guides Association which has been in operation since 1931. I am an Oregon State Marine Board-Certified professional fly-fishing guide with additional certifications in CPR and First Aid. My goal is to produce a memorable and safe McKenzie River experience that involves lots of fish caught!

Scott Wright: IFC Club Advisor

“Partnering with John Over has been an absolute delight for the IFC. His dedication to our cause of supporting students through outdoor experiences has been truly remarkable. My nephew and I spent a half day with John and we had an unforgettable experience. John is a kind, considerate, and a very knowledgeable fishing guide. He was able to introduce us to a new and exciting technique of fly fishing that resulted in an action packed day of catching fish.”

Partnerships:

My most recent partnership involves being named the official guide partner of the Irish Fishing Club. The club was started by Eugene native and Chargers quarterback, Justin Herbert. The club has since evolved into a nonprofit with a mission of, “creating opportunities for the next generation to develop community, camaraderie, and character.” My leadership position within the baseball and fishing community has allowed me to provide the same opportunities for the youth that I was blessed with growing up. By donating fishing trips, I aim to introduce kids to the outdoors and to spread my passion to the next generation of fishermen.
